Following on from our recent events for primary age children, Lancashire junior chess is running a tournament and coaching day for children of all ages who are keen to improve their chess.
To attend, your child should be able to play basic chess, i.e. Understand the pieces, their moves and know of castling, stalemate and checkmate. The Lancashire Chess Association supports the event as part of their plans to promote chess in schools across our county.
It is an informal and fun day, with a mixture of match play with some coaching.
Children will be assigned to sections according to ability, not age. LCA are particularly keen to encourage young children to come along to allow us to field under 9 teams in the future. We have a mixture of coaches that includes primary school teachers who will help support the lower sections.
It is expected that there will be at least 5 sections, possibly more.
i.e. A minimum of a top section of Rooks, Bishops, Knights, Pawns and Tiny Pawns.
Aims of the Lancashire Chess Association Junior events
- To encourage more children to play more chess
- To allow children to play over the board chess in a fun environment
- To highlight the opportunities to play chess for Lancashire junior teams
- To identify children for Lancashire junior teams
- To increase the visibility of Lancashire junior chess across Lancashire
