The Lancashire Chess Association AGM took place on 3 January. The minutes offer a comprehensive summary of our progress in both County and Junior chess activities.
County Chess Highlights
Recent matches have seen some exceptional performances across our teams:

A special mention goes to 13-year-old Max Fyson, who defeated Jamie Heritage (graded 2174) with the black pieces on board 1.
Junior Chess News
Our “Lancashire Red Roses” are now competing in Division 2 of the junior online 4NCL. Upcoming events include the Pennine Cup on Sunday 22nd March 2026 at North Liverpool Academy.

Congress Calendar
Negotiations have successfully avoided clashes for the August congresses following the British Chess Championships:
- Blackpool Congress: Starts 13 February
- Leyland Rapid Play: 22 February
- Lancaster Standard Play: 14 – 16 August
- Manchester Standard Play: 21 – 23 August
- Leyland Standard Play: 29 – 31 August
We are also excited to see plans from Bradley Wain to bring chess congresses back to Preston and Warton after a long hiatus.
