A simul with a difference! Not a visiting GM or IM, but a junior playing a simul against other juniors! It can only mean one thing – Max Fyson!
Max put in an impressive performance playing in his first Simul. Including some latecomers, he took on 26 opponents in total and was playing for two and a half hours. Opponents included a small number of parents and helpers from the club who took the opportunity to fill empty boards.
Final result was 25 wins and one loss. Charlie (who beat him) was obviously delighted but immediately said to Max ‘I’d have had no chance in a 1 to 1 game’.
Max really enjoyed the experience and love oks forward to playing more simuls in the future.
Max is one of Lancashire’s up and coming players, and hails from Lancaster Chess Club. Still early in his career, he has only being playing chess for 18 months, Max is currently 2155 ECF ELO. Who knows, maybe Max will become an IM like a fellow Lancastrian Craig Hanley who was first seen as a junior back in 1995.
Max is the current Lancashire Junior Rapidplay champion and plays for Lancaster and Bare Village Chess Club.
