Over 60 children attended our first event held on a Sunday. The event had 5 sections: the top Rooks Section, the Bishops, the Knights, the Red Pawns and the Tiny Pawns for the new beginners to chess.

A special thanks to the Highfield Priory School for hosting the event at their wonderful school. Also, a special mention to St Cuthbert’s in Blackpool, who came over in a mini-bus with 15 eager chess players.

Special thanks for the team of helpers on the day, who helped with the scoring and admin. The players were all on their best behaviour, so credit to all of them for a great day.

Chief Arbiter on the day was Hambel Willow, so thank you to Hambel for the pairings and the results afterwards. James Carrington ran the Tiny Pawns. So a big thank you to James for helping.

Setup and lockup all done by our Junior Organiser, Colin and the team of helpers at the end.

Look forward to seeing everyone at the next event. Photo’s to follow. Alas, we did not take any photos of the winners but will have some from the event.

Apologies for the delay in getting the article posted. Alas, I went down with a bug and it has taken me a while to get over it. Hopefully, normal service resumes soon!
